Learning to balance our emotions is useful both on and off our yoga mats. Through a variation of hip openers we dig deep and uncover what may be lying hidden within ourselves and excavate the old and bring about the new giving us strength to fly into a vast number of hip focused arm balances. Come and find your emotional (arm) balance! Open to all levels of athletic practitioners. Bend your Inversion – Inverted Backbends Come explore the never-ending possibilities of the Inverted Yoga Practice and break the mold, change your perspective on inversions in your practice. Covering the foundational elements for postures like Handstand and Forearm balance, we will build confidence and strength in the shoulders, chest and abdominals. Through floor and standing backbends we will open the upper back, chest and shoulders, as well as the quadriceps and hamstrings. All to strengthen the low back and open our front body for advanced inverted backbends like Scorpion, Hollowback Scorpion, and other advanced backbends both inverted and from the floor. 16 August (Sat) The Art of Backbending: Spinal Extension vs. Spinal Compression Through backbends we find one of the deepest forms of expressing an open heart and mind in the asana practice. They are liberating, confrontational and life changing...always in constant flux, but in unison. Backbends are often misunderstood, where “depth” in asana means to find one’s most awe-inspiring backbend. In this workshop we will discover that health and longevity for the spine can be achieved through extension, not compression. Yogis should expect to open and strengthen their upper back, shoulders, thoracic and lumbar spine and well as side body. Practicing through basic backbends like upward facing dog, upward facing bow and others, yogis will carve their path into more advanced backbends like handstand/forearm balance scorpion and hollowback. This is for all levels! Ultimate Expression of Yoga Practice (co-teach with Robert) Do you remember your first Yoga Class? Would you love to have a photo like this (click to a fancy Bri/Dice photo)? Well during this workshop you can not only learn how to approach advanced poses such as Adho Mudha Vrksasana (handstand) but also capture the fullest expression of the pose during the peak of your practice. International Yogis, Dice Iida-Klein and Briohny Smyth are teaming up with world renown photographer, Robert Sturman for a once in a lifetime workshop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at Inspired Yoga. As an attendee you will learn the fundamental alignment points for advanced asanas through a thorough study of foundational asanas like downward facing dog, plank, chatturanga and the dynamic interlinked movements of the yoga vinyasa. Learning to hold handstand or headstand is hard, but learning to enter handstand and headstand using minimal or no momentum is even more challenging. Yogis will learn to use props like blankets and blocks to help enter their inversions in a smooth and controlled manner. Press on yogis! Bryce Yoga’s Signature Inverted Flow Practice (Master Class) All forms of the asana practice are variations of moving meditation. Using elements of vinyasa flow, paired with arm balances and inversions, we link our breath with movement giving ourselves acute focus on the present moment and freeing ourselves from distractions of the past and future. Join Dice and Bri in this fun but challenging flow class where you will use your breath, mind and body to flow through surya namaskars, strong standing postures, arm balances and inversions, backbends, twists and seated folds.
